Abstract: We have studied biochemically the "Three Lines" (the male sterile line, the maintainer line and the pollen fertility recoverer line) and found that proline in the sterile anther is lower than that in control. Thus the retardation of sugar metabolism and the decrease of amino acid may be one of the important factors responsible for male sterility of rice.
