JIPB recently sponsored and attended the 2012 National Congress of Plant Biology in Yangling, near Xi¡¯an. The event had a very large turnout, with the Chinese Cell Biology Society, the Genetics Society of China, the China Plant Physiology Society, the Botanical Society of China, and the China Crop Science Society all in attendance. More than 800 participants attended the congress.
During the meeting, Professor Bill Lucas of the University of California, Davis gave a talk on local and long-distance communication in plants, and professors Jiankang Zhu, Xiaoya Chen, Yongbiao Xue and 7 others gave keynote speeches.
In addition, JIPB hosted a special Scientific Writing Workshop taught by Professor Bill Lucas and emceed by Professor Chun-Ming Liu. Bill engaged the audience in discussion on ethical issues in scientific writing, how to compose a compelling manuscript, the importance of clarity in writing, and more. The workshop was attended by over 60 participants.
