A two-day workshop on scientific Writing, co-organized by JIPB and Agro-biological Gene Research Center of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GDAAS), was held in Guangzhou during Dec. 8–9, 2015. This workshop is one of the series workshops hosted by JIPB. The aim of the workshop is to help young students and researchers to develop their writing skills for high-profile scientific journals.
A distinguished plant cell biologist and one of the JIPB Editors, Prof. Tobias I. Baskin from the University of Mass Amherst, was the main instructor of the workshop. The workshop was opened by Prof. Jun Liu, the Deputy Director of Agro-biological Gene Research Center, GDAAS. Prof. Chun-Ming Liu, the Chief Editor of JIPB, coached the workshop. The workshop covered many technical details in scientific writing such as how to organize a manuscript, how to organize the logic flow, how to organize data and figures, and how to avoid potential risks of ethics problems. A session of group discussions was also included in the workshop to allow students to identify problems in manuscripts. Prof. Baskin encouraged young students and researchers to improve their language skills by reading classical English literature. On the first day of the workshop, Prof. Chun-Ming Liu also gave a presentation on JIPB's development and future plans. Over 120 researchers and students from 20 universities and research institutes have participated the workshop.
