Abstract: A loss of seed viability in elm (Ulmus pumila L. ) was associated with an increase in frequency of anaphase cells in the surviving seeds, showing chromosome aberration. The condition of accelerated aging at 35℃; the decrease of seed viability and accumulation of the chromosome aberration in ultradried seeds were effectively retarded, and therefore, its storability was greatly improved. However. according to statistical figures, for any given loss of germination rate, the vigor of ultradried seeds (UD) was lower than control seeds (CK), and the frequency of abnormal cells was higher than CK.
