Abstract: N-banding analysis has been used to identify the univalents of all 21 monosomics at diakinesis or metaphase Ⅰ. The univalents of nine wheat monosomics which are monosomic lB to 7B, 4A and 7A have shown distinctive N-banding patterns. These banding patterns appear to be identical in meiotic and mitotic chromosomes. The method is simple and speedy. The research probably provides a new way for cytological identification of monosomics in wheat and offers a technique for genome analysis of hybrids in wheat.
