Abstract: Three active principles: maytansine, maytanprine and maytanbutine have been isolated from maytenus variabilis (Loes.) C. Y. Cheng, which is widespread in Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou and Hubei. This plant is relatively concentrated in some regions and can be collected easily. The method of separation is relatively simple. Therefore Maytenus variabilis is a better source used for the isolation of maytansinoids.
