The workshop on scientific writing organized by JIPB, was held in Shenzhen from July 23 to 24, 2016. This is the 9
th workshop in the series hosted by JIPB. The aim of the workshop is to help young students and researchers to develop their writing skills for high-profile scientific journals.
The distinguished plant cell biologist and one of the JIPB Senior Editors, Prof. William Lucas from UC Davies was the main instructor of the workshop. The workshop was opened and assisted by Prof. Chun-Ming Liu, the Chief Editor of JIPB, the Director General of the Institute of Crop Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (ICS-CAAS). The workshop covered many technical details in scientific writing, in particular scientific writing skills, ethics in publishing, and how to write a paper for high-ranking journals. Prof. Lucas stressed that science journals are permanent record of scientific development, which ensure that results of science are rapidly disseminated to the public throughout the world. On the first day of the workshop, Prof. Chun-Ming Liu also gave a presentation on JIPB's development and future plans. Over 60 researchers and students from 20 universities and research institutes attended the workshop.
