Cover Caption: Rhynchanthus beesianus W. W. Smith (Zingiberaceae) is an epiphytic tropical ginger with a very conspicuous floral display, and it usually grows on the rocks or tree branches (the bottom right image). A female Black-breasted Sunbird (Aethopyga saturata) visiting R. beesianus as a nectar robber in Yunnan Province, south-west China (the top left image). The flowers possess a typical bird pollination syndrome, but suffered a serious pollinator-limitation in the field. Female Black-breasted Sunbirds and bumblebees visited R. beesianus regularly, but they all played roles as nectar robbers. Bird extinctions as a result of habitat fragmentation may lead to a decline of pollination and fruit set in this species. See pages 1294–1299 for more details.[Detail] ...
