Cover Caption: Wild apples display higher levels of genetic diversity than cultivated apples. In this issue, Ma et al. (190–204) observed linkage disequilibrium (LD) decays quite rapidly in cultivated and wild apples. Most LD blocks unique to cultivated apples are located within QTL regions controlling fruit quality, suggesting that fruit quality has undergone selection during domestication. Introgression is also an important driving force during initial domestication. The wild apple photo is provided by Cuiying Li from Northwest A&F University.
