Cover Caption: The Orchidaceae, one of the largest and most morphologically diverse angiosperm families, showcases unique evolutionary adaptations in morphology, ecology, and function. Zeng et al. (pages 2577–2607) review recent advances in orchid phylogenomics, biogeography, genome evolution, and key innovations. Phylogenomic studies have clarified the evolutionary history of orchids and highlighted the roles of geological, climatic, and biotic factors in their diversification. Comparative genomic analyses indicate that whole-genome duplication, repetitive element accumulation, and genome restructuring contributed to genome diversity and provided genetic substrates for innovation. Multi-omics studies further link epiphytism, mycoheterotrophy, CAM photosynthesis, floral morphogenesis, and deceptive pollination to gene family evolution and the rewiring of regulatory networks.
